I Iam not an avid fisherman. It might have something to do with my childhood. I used to go fishing with my Grandpa Cowhick at our farm pond. I was probably about five or six years old. He would of been in his sixties at the time. This was at the time when people sometimes still used cane poles. Cane pole fishing does not compare to reel fishing. To do cane pole fishing you bait the hook, hold the hook in your hand and swing the pole out toward the water. Kinda like hitting a backhand tennis stroke. Also you need to let loose of the bait at the right time to get it to go as far our as possible. Reel fishing is so much better. You get the fun of casting and the fun of reeling. You can do both of these things and never catch a fish. Casting and reeling added excitement to fishing. Grandpa and me had a difference in fishing philosophy. I remember his fishing advice to me, " You need to be quiet. You will scare the fish." My philosophy was talk, talk, talk. My next favorite thing to do is to throw rocks in the water. Now you know why I am not a very good fisherman but I do have a lot of fun talking and throwing rocks.
