Today is a songwriting morning but I'm not writing songs. Sometimes songwriting is not about playing guitar and trying to come up with fresh new and exciting lyrics. I won't need to record any songs or try to sing in tune because I have officially declared today as Songwriter Contest Day. I entered four songs in the Winfield, Ks- Walnut Valley Festival New song contest. The four songs that I entered are Little Black Dress (Humorous category), Average Joe (None of the above category), Something you can see, (Love song category) and Linwood Café. (Sweet Memories). I also entered one song in the American Songwriter lyric contest. The song I submitted was Long live the King. Now all I need to do is wait. Waiting is not one of my favorite things to do. Unless I'm standing in line at a grocery store. (Sarcasm.) I work at a grocery store and I hate standing in line. I will go home without groceries before I will stand in a long line. You can tell that I need to learn to be more patient.
What are the prizes for these two contest ? The reward for the Walnut Valley song contest is getting to play on stage at the Walnut Valley Festival in October. I have been a runner up twice and got to perform on stage once. The runner up might get to perform if the first place winner does not show. Both times I went the first place winner was present. The lyric contest is a co-writing session with a country songwriter named Charlie Worsham, a demo session for my song, and a new guitar. A man can never have to many guitars. To verify that you will need to ask me and not my wife.
