Song titles. Every song has a title. Duh! Can I be more obvious? lol. It is true that every song has a title but not all titles are good titles. It is easier to talk about bad titles than good titles. What are some examples of bad titles? I wrote a song called, Man in the mirror. Yes this is the same title as a Michael Jackson song. I am not in trouble with MIchael for stealing his title. Anybody can use a song title. Song titles are open for everyone to use. Now I may not want to use it if my song will be so overshadowed by the original that nobody will ever listen to it. Let me ask you this, Has anyone every written a song called Amazing Grace? The song that you wrote called Amazing Grace might be one the best songs ever but it is being compared to a classic and those are mighty big shoes to fill.
Ordinary titles that do not draw attention to the person looking at songs is another problem. How about this title- I love you? How original is that? Not very. There is a song that I love that talks about somebody missing a soldier who didn't come home from the war. The theme of the song is about how much he was missed and loved. The title could of been, I love you. The title of this song is I Drive Your Truck. When I hear that title I wonder what is that song about. It catches my interest.
I wrote a song that I love the title. It is called, Stealing Jesus.. What do you think this song is about after reading the title? Listen to the song and see if you were right on where I was going with this title.
