I was looking forward to a songwriting mentoring session in Nashville. I had a couple of songs that I wanted to get evaluated and talk about songwriting. The mentoring session started out with being handed a business card followed by an infomercial on how I needed to go to his website to learn how to play my guitar better. He talked about himself and how he had done many evaluations. He told me that he knows a great song from a good song then he proceeded to tell me my songs were not great songs. This was not shocking news to me. If they were great songs, I would be listening to them on the radio and not playing them for a arrogant mentor. It was a brutal session. I am naturally a happy and smiling person but I was trying hard to fake a smile to endure the session. I was looking forward to my mentoring session, kinda like a kid looking forward to a parade. A rainy parade.
