You got to write what you know. I believe that for a song to work it has to be something that you know about. The song needs to ring true to who you are. It would be difficult for someone who is not a fan of football to write a story about football. There is certain lingo that the writer would needs to know. They would need to know about touchdown, first downs, passing, pass rush, blitz, off sides, and the list goes on and on. If the person writing the song gets one of these terms wrong, a true football fan can spot a fake. I would say that this is especially true in Christian music. I believe that when you write a song it needs to be about a subject that you know very well or about something that you have experienced. This adds to the authenticity of the song and the feel of the song.
