After I auditioned at the Bluebird Café I went to Oklahoma to visit my son Jeremy, his wife Kristi, and my three grandkids, Titus, Mac, and Tate. I had a great time and we celebrated my birthday. My birthday was Thursday and I traveled from Nashville to Edmond. I left Nashville around 7 am and got to Edmund about 6pm. That is enough driving for me.
Kristi made chocolate cake for me. Have you heard about the chocolate cake? This is the cake recipe that my Mom made for me on my birthday's when I was a kid. I have been eating this cake for the last fifty-nine years. My Mom passed away this year but the tradition continues. My daughter Heather and Kristi have both made this cake for me. It is so good. It has a homemade chocolate frosting that is heated in a pan on the stove. The frosting reminds me of the chocolate frosting on a Hostess cupcake but better. I love chocolate cake and the people that make it.
I was talking with Mac and he asked me to play a song on my guitar. He asked me a question that I wasn't prepared for. What is your favorite song? That is like asking which child do you love the most, or which child is your favorite? They are all my favorites and I love them all the same. Each song is special in it's own way. I like Best Friend because it is about my Mom and her walk with Jesus. This is the song that I played at her funeral.
I like the song, How to Fish. It is a song about going fishing with my grandpa. Shelter in the Storm is a song about life being unfair. Pair of Dice (Paradise) is a song about the thief dying on the cross beside Jesus. Big Hit is about playing my guitar at my family reunion. Backroads is about driving down backroad with your girlfriend. Man in the Mirror is about a man looking in the mirror and not liking what he see and how he wants to change his life. That's what crazy does is about a guy under suicide watch in an insane asylum who wants his crazy girlfriend to come visit him. Lot's of different emotions and directions are found in these songs.
The song that I played for Mac was Long live the King. I won't tell you what the song is about I will let the lyrics do the talking.
Long live the King
One white glove, he danced the moonwalk
from the Jackson Five to the King of Pop
I watched the crowd as he sang Billie Jean
I saw a young girl and I heard her scream.
Chorus- Long live the king, Long live the king.
Come on everybody let's sing
We love him, we need him, It's his songs we sing
Long live the king.
The music in Memphis it rocks and it rolls
made famous by Elvis part blues and part soul
The ladies swooned when his hips swayed
an idol to millions in the US of A.
Chorus- Long live the king, Long live the king.
Come on everybody let's sing
We love him, we need him, It's his songs we sing
Long live the king.
Our kings and their kingdoms the crumble and rust
We cry when they die as we all turn to dust.
There's a baby in a manger, King of Israel
Died on a cross to save me from hell.
We all worship, someone or something
I worship Jesus, King of all Kings.
Long live the King, Long live the King
Come on everybody let's sing.
We love him, we need him, It's his song we sing
Long live the King.
I love you, I need you and your why I sing
Long Live the King.
