I went to watch my grandson, Aiden played football on Thursday night. He is an eighth grader and plays slot back on offense and cornerback on defense for the Rossville Bulldogs football team. The game was at Riley County High School. Riley County is a out an hour and a half away from where I live. Aiden had a good game and I decided to leave early to get home at a decent hour. I had it figured out that if I left at 8 pm, I could be home at 9:30 and still get a full nights sleep before work tomorrow.
You know what they say about the best made plans. Me, neither. I do know from personal experience that what I plan on happening and what happens are usually two different animals. I was making great time and then I made a pit stop at Dairy Queen for a chocolate shake. I couldn't resist. I remember as a kid my Dad would take me there. We both had sweet tooth's. I was still on schedule.
I got out of Manhattan, KS and was on Bill Snyder Highway. It is the highway that runs from I-70 to Manhattan. In this part of the country everybody knows who Bill Snyder is. He is the legendary football coach that turned around the K-State football program. If you can do that we will name our streets, highways, town, and children after you.
As I was going down Bill Snyder Highway I was passed by a policeman running his red lights. I didn't know where he was going but I soon figured it out. There was a wreck on I-70. I never saw the wreck but I did get to spend an hour sitting on the highway waiting as tow trucks came and cleared the scene of the accident.
I decided that I would watch some U Tube videos while I was waiting. I like to watch Ted Talks. They are informative speeches by great speakers. The subject I decided on was how to tell a great story. I am a songwriter and yes, I do want to tell a great story when I write a song. This would be a great one to listen to. It was very motivational and is what prompted me to write this blog.
I have been thinking about writing a book. I thought this might be the time to start. I could write my blog like I am writing a book and share it as I go. Forget about editing, I will self edit as I go. I don't know how long this will take. Maybe some people will read it, or maybe not. Also, if my friends and family read it they would help to hold me accountable. Not that I am excited about being held accountable. Those words remind me of my job. My bosses love to hold people accountable. Let me revise that statement. They love to hold others accountable.
Here is the title of my book- When I make it big. It's time to start the journey. I hope you like it. PS. You probably won't need a seat belt.
