Monday was moving day. I call it moving day but really it was packing up all of Mom's belongings. She has moved to a better place. Heaven is her new home. Monday was the day that me and my family packed up the remains of ninety-five years of living. Mom and Dad have downsized many times too help make this easier on us kids. We sorted through looking for the gold ( not real gold) hidden among the everyday items.
Stuff is stuff. A couch is a couch. A TV is a TV. Some are bigger. Some are newer. Some are heavy. The precious items are the ones with the memories attached to them. I would say the most precious item we found was Mom's Scoffield Bible. It was black leather with her name on the front. It was her Christmas present in 1974. The words written in it was " Merry Christmas 1974" in my hand writing. You open up the Bible and you see a bible that has been used but never abused.
Mom had written on the pages, notes from sermons she had heard. Quotes that she loved filled up what used to be the blank parts of the pages. Different color highlighters were used on her favorite verses. Blue and black ink were used to underline other important verses. Mom's Bible was worn and cherished. Faded but full of promises. An old book full of facts to help us live today. Hundreds of one line notes taken from forty years of sermons, saved in her own handwriting.
God's Word that was read and absorbed into my Mother's life. A life that us kids read everyday. If you really want to know someone look at their Bible. If you want to be like Jesus, read the Bible. Did we find treasures? Yes, we found "Gold".
