Have you ever lost your child anywhere? In a grocery store or at a kid's baseball game? I remember one time I was at the hospital with my daughter Heather. We were on the elevator and I stepped off the elevator. Heather was about 2 years old at the time. As soon as I stepped of the elevator, I looked for Heather and she was still on the elevator. I never saw an elevator door shut as quickly as that elevator door shut that day. The next thing I knew I was standing there staring at a shut door and my screaming daughter cried as the elevator went to the next floor.
I know that is a terrible story and shows that I wasn't being a very good parent. Can you imagine being Mary, Jesus' s mother? Her and Joseph went to the Passover festival in Jerusalem. Jesus would have been about twelve years old. They left to go home and could not find Jesus. They traveled one day's journey before they realized that he was missing. Then they had to travel back another day's journey and it took another three days to find him.
Can you imagine being Mary and praying to God about losing his Son? What would you say, " Yeah, God, you know that Son that you gave me? Well, I kinda lost him. I know that you gave him for me to take care of and I'm really sorry. Can you help me to find him? What a responsibility she had to be Jesus's mother. I bet Mary did a better job of making sure that they had Jesus with them after that.
