Nashville publishing companies accepting songs

I decided that I wanted to start sending my songs to music publishers in 2013. I write country music and folk songs. I decided my best bet was to go with a Nashville songwriting publisher. I went to a website called Songwriter Source.com I I found a couple different types of publishing companies. There are the major publishing companies who only want established song writers. I decided to go with an independent publisher but I wanted one that has had some success. Here is a list of the ones that I chose. Big Fish Music Publishing Group, Big Tractor Music, Bluewater Music, Cal IV Entertainment, Crutchfield Music Group, Jody Williams Music, Peer Music, Electric Mule Publishing, Big Yellow Dog, and Moraine Music Group. ( I chose Big Yellow Dog because it is Toby Keith's publishing company and I like Toby.)

I sent every company an introduction letter. I included a brief description of my music and genre that I like to write in. The purpose of the letter was to ask permission to send them songs to listen to. I sent out ten letter. 10! How many responses do you think a songwriter would get out of ten letters? None. Ouch! I did receive one returned back in the mail because the address was not accurate.

I had read that it is hard to get your songs listened to by publishing companies. Now I know how hard it is. I thought this was interesting and that you might be interested in learning this about publishing companies.

Okay. I could give up but I can't do that. On to the next idea.

Hi Kenny. It is nice to meet you. Thanks for reading my blog and responding. I listened and watched the video of Jesus money. It was a great song and it sounded great. You did a great job. I am a songwriter who wants other folks to record my song. It would be great if you know of someone who is looking for a song that I could pitch it too. The other thing that I might be interested in would be a guitar/vocal. I am looking for someone who is a better singer and guitarist than me to make my songs shine without breaking the bank. I write 12-20 songs a year. I would like to be able to pitch them to television and tv. I would need a work for hire release. I am trying to make a dime on my music instead of just investing my money on chasing the dream. Love your work. Have a great day. Thanks, Jim

A few years ago I sent out about 20 flyers listing my Web Site granting the artist a free mechanical licence up to 500 copies if they would record a song of mine. 15 of my songs are on a Web site, Five Roses Music. Guess how many artists took me up on my offer. Not one! Keep writing!

Hi Kris. I would suggest doing what I am doing. I joined NSAI (Nashville Songwriting Association International.) It is a great way to meet other songwriter and to start the process of getting to meet and pitch your songs to publishers. Members can pitch two songs a year to a publisher for an online event. This is great for us songwriters that don't live in Nashville. The other thing is to keep writing songs. I am sure that you are doing this but it is true. We can't quit. Hope this advice helps you.

It makes you wonder how people get anything recorded or published gone are the days when I would go to London and walk into any record company or publishers and within 30-40 minutes be sitting listening to my demo's by these people. Now its you need a media lawyer to submit your material which cost a lot, but you know I still write and perform my own songs from country to rock pop because of the enjoyment I get and also great feedback of the people watching and listening I'm 67 yrs of age and I still can write fresh ideas all the time, I've had sound tracks signed to a film company in London so I must be doing something right and I've had good compliments from such great songwriters as Albert Hammond who wrote umpteen hits for top recording stars I had just turn 60 yrs at the time feedback from great writers like Albert Hammond make it all worth while to all you unknown songwriters just keep writing even if its for self satisfaction and you never one day something might just break for you best of luck everyone. Hey TD. Thanks for the encouraging words. Us songwriters need all the encouragement that we can get. It is so hard to get our songs heard and then it is hard to write great songs. I agree with you. I write for the satisfaction of writing.

I have quite a collection of songs that I have written. Would like to find a publishing would listen to my songs. My e mail address is: pat.linda@comcast,net. Look forward to hearing from you My cell number is 615-5034-1030. Once again-Thanks, Pat Dortch

Hi Jim, how is it going now with pitching your songs? Hi Joe. I am still learning how to get better at pitching. I currently get almost all of my pitches through NSAI. (Nashville Songwriting Association International) With my membership I get two pitches a year and I have the opportunity to buy more if needed. Last year I wrote a song with an artist/songwriter and he included my song on his album. That was pretty cool.

Hi Trent. I have my own publishing company so I can self publish my songs. Maybe you should look into doing some self publishing. The best thing about self publishing is that you get 100% of the money your song makes. The worst part is if you don't get it recorded is a 100% of nothing is still nothing.

Hi Elbert. If I understand you correctly you had a publisher that wanted you to pay them $3000 to record your song. A legit publisher would not ask for money. They would use their money to produce the demo. If they think your song is a hit then they would gladly invest their money to make more money. Beware of publishers that want you to pay them.

Hey Alan. I do have my own publishing company. I have one artist who thinks he can write a decent song and then he hears a great song and I wonder if the mountains too big. Maybe you can relate. I am an assistant manager at a Kroger store. Not a good job to pay a songplugger. It pays the mortgage and keeps me afloat. I pitch a couple songs a year through NSAI. The publishers liked my songs but nothing happened. I believe that my future as a songwriter is out of my control. So I trust in Jesus and let him be in control of my future. It is great to meet you.
