Yee! Haw! With that intro I bet you can figure out I'm from Kansas. Ha! Ha! I am excited because next week a Nashville music publisher will listen to two songs I have written. This will be my second time I have received this chance. Last year I went to NSAI's (Nashville Songwriting Association International) Spring Training event. It is an event where NSAI brings in publishers to hear your songs. I don't even remember the name of the publishing company or the name of the person for the company. We had about 10-12 songwriters and each of us had our CD's with two songs. I felt so out of place. My CD consisted of me singing (one strike), my guitar and bass guitar playing, (Not Nashville quality), and the recording was done in my spare bedroom. (George Strait hasn't asked to record there.) Ten out of the twelve in the room had demos that cost upwards to $1000. Some of the demo productions quality were good enough to be radio ready. Radio ready is not a word I would use to describe my demos. My main goal is to get the thoughts and words out of my head and capture them on a CD. The publisher did not choose any songs from our room. We had one guy who had a great song but the publisher was not interested. Later in the event he went on to get a publishing deal for his song with a different publisher. ( I thought that was interesting.) I was glad later that I did not spend big bucks on a demo to get it rejected. It was okay to be rejected but I would have felt terrible if I spent $2000 on demos and was rejected. Ouch! Pray for me on my song pitch to the publisher next Thursday.
