I am reading a book called Do Over. It is a career book. I have been at my job for 29 years. I am not planning on doing over my career. Coasting out my career, yes. Doing it over. No. I have been working in the grocery business for over forty years and am getting close to the end of this phase of my life. My next phase, (God willing and the creek don't rise) is to have a career in music. I always want to clarify that my plans can be adjusted by God. He knows the future and he knows me and I sure don't know what is going to happen. So he is the authority in my life. Not that I always know or do what he wants me to do. There is a saying that I like. God looks at our plans and laughs. It is like when our children tell us they are going to play in the NBA and they are 5 foot tall and can't dribble a basketball. I am sure I make God laugh a lot.
What does a career in music look like to me? I want to be a singer songwriter. That is a step above songwriter. I love to play guitar. I am not a very good singer. I send my demos to get them evaluated and they would rather evaluate my singing than my songs. Hopefully it is because they can find more things wrong with my singing than my songs. Even though I want to be a singer songwriter, I believe that my songs sound so much better when a true singer sings them. So I want other people to sing and record them but I got to go where people will here them to want to do this. I don't have that part figured out.
My Do Over is going to be about how I transition from a full time grocery store worker to a retired grocery store worker who is a full time musician. Hopefully I can even make a few dollars from music to buy guitar strings.
Maybe you are contemplating doing some things over in your life. Or maybe just refining your current job or a part of your life. . Today is the day to start. Tomorrow we can buy new guitar strings.
