I can't speak for all musicians but I will tell you how I feel. I love to play my guitar and perform my music but I don't like to self promote. I know that it is a necessary evil. The way it works is - If I don't promote my events, fans don't come to the show, and venue's don't want empty seats. When venue's have empty seats they look for another artist who will promote and can bring in customers.
I will share some of the things I have done to try and promote my music. Hopefully, there might be ideas that you can use to promote your music. I will share things that I did wrong and should have done different.
This blog is one avenue I use to promote my music and gigs. The more I blog the more visits to my website. Musicians have to wear many different hats. Here are a few examples- Songwriter, singer, guitar player, producer, promoter, and the list goes on and on and on. What if Lance Armstrong had to spend all his time getting sponsorships to ride in the Tour De France and did not have time to train? The easy fix would be to hire someone to do the promotions, etc. The problem I have is, that I have not found anyone who work cheaper than me? Ha! Ha!
Promote your gigs. If you don't, who will?
