Bill Bradley of the New York Knicks wrote this story. Coach Macauley told this story, "If you're not practicing, just remember- Someone, somewhere, is practicing, and when you meet, given roughly equal ability, he will win. " Those words motivated him to work harder. Beginning that year and all through high school, I practiced from June to September, four days a week, three hours a day; from September to March, I practiced three to hour hours a day Monday -Friday, and five hours a day on Saturday and Sunday. I shot set shots and jump shots from five different places on the floor. I would shoot until I made twenty-five straight shots. If I missed on twenty-three I would start over. I remember a 15 year old classmate called on the telephone to flirt one night, I somewhat doltishly protested that my real girlfriend was basketball. And we wonder why he made it to the NBA? Remember, Someone, Somewhere is practicing.
