I found a yellow piece of paper. It was sitting on top of my printer. It has some lyrics or maybe a better description is a song idea written on it. I will jot down an idea and lay it down. I try to use my ipod for most of my ideas. I have a spot in notes that is labeled, "Song Ideas 2". I don't know what happened with Song Idea 1 . Maybe it got full. Maybe song idea 2 had better stuff in. If I see or hear anything that sparks an interest I try to jot it down. You never know where the next great song idea might come from. Here are the word that are jotted on this note. I needed a Savior and I found a friend, and Jesus forgives forgotten sins. The devil whispers my name and says, "Remember the time?" That is what was on the note. If I were to add to it today. I would write- The devil and Jesus they fight for my mind. Then I have to decide is this a chorus or a verse? Where am I going to take these lyrics? A whole bunch of questions. Is it me talking? Who am I talking to? Am I talking to myself? What is the point of the song? The list of questions goes on and on. Sometimes it is best to answer these questions at the beginning to save time. Other times I dive into the deep end and learn how to swim as I try not to drown. You can't learn to swim without getting in the water. You gotta step out there and just write the song. Keep writing down all of your ideas, You never know which one might be the golden nugget. All songwriters need an Ipod, a spiral notebook, pieces of paper laying on the printer, or a little black book.
